A note from The Doctor's Office

It can happen to anyone…even you. A phrase we have all heard when someone is attempting to scares us into being prepared. I see it every year in Florida, when hurricane season comes the county starts to show scenes of hurricane destruction as part of their effort to get their residents to prepare their homes ahead of time for a potential Hurricane. I have been through six different Hurricanes in my time in Florida (three in a 30 day period) and have been lucky each time, but due to the scenes of destruction I still prepare for the worse.
This brings me to CrosseyedGamers’ metaphorical hurricane that caused mass destruction on the site, but as any intelligent individual, the powers to be on the site prepared for the worse and made sure there was a backup. Checking today I see that the site is almost at full go (with a small loss of data) and that most of what has been contributed to the site is back for all to see. Something can be said about good preparation as it has allowed for only a small time of despair and a return to our Modus Operandi.
The Cool…
I was going to talk about Epic Mickey and I still will, but I want to again address “Hackgate”. Hacking is never cool whether it’s done for fun, or in this case causes a major disruption. What is cool though is the response of site owners and their ability to get this site back to full force with very little downtime. Again, great work to all those that made this happen.
I never try to hide the fact that I love everything Disney. In the days of yore I would always pick Walt Disney to do as a biography for an assignment. I have been to Walt Disney World over 50 times and I was even been married at the Disney Wedding Pavilion. I feel like that once you cross that Disney border you enter a different world. A world I always want to experience. After watching the trailer for Epic Mickey and seeing more of the game I feel like they are going to deliver a little of that experience and if it ends up being that way at release then I’m in.
From what I have read I’m going to be able to complete quests and explore twisted versions of some of the most iconic rides and attractions in Disney. Nothing could be more interesting and will finally force me to break down and buy a Wii. Of coarse I will say I’m getting it for my daughter and two boys, but in reality it’s for me to spend countless hours playing as Mickey and 007.
The Lame…
Besides someone hacking the site and being a world class douche bag???
So those fellas that bought IBM are going to try and get into gaming….Can we all say late. You know I was thinking it would be great to have phone you could go anywhere with. The market is already pretty strong with three well supported companies involved in bringing console games. I really can’t see a 4th company offering anything new to the medium, especially one that looks like they are trying to rip off Microsoft. I understand in an industry like video games or even entertainment there is going to be some emulation, but they are even calling it the E-Box. The Lenovo Group’s complete lack of creativity even extends to the name…E-Box, really. I feel like I would be buying “Fruity O’s” instead Fruit Loops….lets call it what it is…Generic.
I personally don’t see much of a future for this machine. If they can’t even be creative with the device itself how are they going to be creative in brining innovative games? What will their first game be…a first person shooter where you defend your world from a group of fanatical aliens? I say save your time and money now and stick to producing BUSINESS PCs….where you can continue to thrive with out any creativity.
The “who gives a crap”
I actually have two items that I really don’t give a flying leap about, but none the less I will still write about them.
So the PS3 finally gets hacked/jailbroken…big deal every machine on earth has this happen to it eventually why should the PS3 be any different. Sony is going to do everything they can to prevent these machines from being sold, as if there is a way to stop that from happening. The lawsuit is needed, but they shouldn’t allow this to be their focus. Let’s spend some time fixing some other issues that could improve “social” game play. Or fix that awful dashboard. The PS3 is a great device and its games are on par with any other console’s exclusive, but it gets hurt in the social aspect that other systems thrive with.
Did you see that awesome trailer for The Last Templar? Neither did I, what I did see was a video “showcasing” (I use that term loosely) a game that had really bad game mechanics and lack of excitement. You take a look at the videos for Halo: Reach, Dragon Age 2, and Black Ops and they make you want to go out and buy the game. That is from companies who are going to sell millions of games based of their name alone and they still take the time to put out a trailer that leaves your mouth a gaped.
A developer trying to establish a game or at least generate buzz for that new title should do so with a jaw dropping trailer. The trailer for The Last Templar instead did the exact opposite; I instantly hate the game and without even playing it want to give it a 1 out of 10. Way to lose one customer with your “Movie-Maker” home software trailer. I for one love games that take place during the middle ages, but I will refuse to pick this one up. Even if it gets 10 out of 10 I will still pass just to prove a point.
Makes me wonder…
So in a recent article is was stated the trapped Chilean miners are getting PSPs to help pass the time they will be stuck down there which is said to be about 3 months (and you thought you end of summer sucked). I love this idea (the miners are already getting supplies) what a way to help. I can imagine the biggest issue would be being stuck in an area without any other interaction then talking to each other. At least now they have something to help occupied their minds. Besides the food, water and toiletries this might end up being a life saver, the last thing anyone needs is someone losing their mind and reenacting The Shining. “Here’s Johnny!!!”
This is something that should be done for all tragedy victims. We can save the sanity of the world through gaming. Actually, wait, scratch that…The only thing this will do is preventing people who are suppose to be rebuilding or reestablishing their lives from completing the job.
Man 1: “I thought you were going to help get the well up and running”
Man 2: Sorry dude, but I got busy pwning some noobs in COD…then I got into it with this BK asking if he left his wallet at my mom’s house….what a bitch”
Man 1: “how are we going to have water to drink?!?!”
Man 2: “Listen bruh….I got a couple of Monster’s I can spare, but don’t get greedy…I need a few tonight. marathon session to get my next prestige….Boom baby”
Man 1: “Wha….”
Ten things I thought this week
1. 5:05 am is way to early for anyone to be up
2. Melted cheese taste good on pretty much anything that is not a “sweet”
3. I’m going to say it again…Halo ODST had a better campaign the Halo 3.
4. Two weeks….two weeks….I will heading over to Gamestop to wait in line to play a game I have had dirty thoughts about.
5. Pens are easily superior to pencils.
6. How many cups of coffee will I have to drink to get through this meeting…WOW 6 is the magic number.
7. Every game should have co-op campaign…for me playing through the story with other people is what makes the game great.
8. Florida is all kinds of messed up.
9. Clan war….really!!! What kind of ignorant, immature nonsense is that?
10a. I love going to a restaurant and actually having a good waitress. For some reason that is becoming more and more rare.
10b. The T-Rex Restaurant at Downtown Disney has the greatest hand dryer in the world….I can’t explain how it works, but it’s amazing.
10c. I think I really need to pick up Mad Men…the show kills at the Emmys.
10d. Halo 3 is still more fun then any other shooter when playing with friends.
A problem we all have to deal with…
It seems like the overall demeanor of the people on Xbox Live continues to get more and more disrespectful. I’m not sure the cause of this, but its getting to the point where I generally want to stay in party chat just to avoid listening to the garbage that is spewed. The overall racist and sexist rhetoric is appalling and truly shows what people think. I know these people only do it on live because they know they can hide behind their anonymity, but show some class. I doubt we will see it ever get cleaned up…Free Speech in all, but what ever happen to general decency?
What am I playing: Halo 3 and ODST – even though I am avoiding Reach news I am still excited for the game. Playing Halo 3 and ODST is at least helping me get a “fix”.
What am I watching: Sonic X – I love Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic X is one of the better series. Sonic in our world….how can you not love that.
What am I listening to: Tom Petty – Icon that always allows me to relax.
Movie recommendation: Idiocracy- I found this gem based on a friend’s viewing. Made my Mike Judge (Bevis and Butthead, Office Space) it deal with a world that continues to get dumber and dumber. Very funny and worth a watch.
