I have a question -
Are there in fact still groups that call themselves Guilds?
Have then all been converted to CLANS?
Or maybe the CLAN term has since been played out and something new is being used?
I am asking for a couple reasons as
1. As you see in the clan forums there is a spot for CLANS AND GUILDS.
If the term guilds is not being used then we could simply just say CLANS. Maybe even move the list of groups in that forum up one level to the main section CLAN FORUMS.
2. Everything other game I play the first thing I hear is , Oh look at those losers they are in a clan. Or, what is CEG some geek clan and so on. This doesn't just happen to CEG as I have heard the same when in parties with other groups that use some type of signifier to recognize their group.
Personally, I grew tired of the word clan. When we decided to move forward with CrossEyedGamer I didn't even want to have clans. That wasn't really true. I wanted groups of gamers to come and socialize and game together I just didn't want that old nasty structured drama filled CLAN atmosphere.
On that note, if any of you are stuck in that mindset you had better lose it quick or slowly we will send you on your way. We like the structure and some do have meetings and stricter rules but this is not Kansas folks. If you want someone to smash you in the head for not posting a squad list or not making a meeting there are CLANS out there for you to join. That isn't what the staff of CrossEyedGamer wishes for it's gamer groups.
That said, I would like to just get some others feelings on this Guild thing.
We do have PC Gamers and even one group noted in that forum area. Would it be wrong to simple have a list of GAMER GROUPS and do away with the words CLANS and GUILDS?
Of course, you may also know that we have an area for GROUPS on our site. I know there are some limitations to using them but those are only based on the fact that you haven't tried to do so and are use to doing something else.
Being an innovator takes some guts and means doing new things when others may complain about it.
Trust me, I could run a gamer group using our group area with no issues at all. I don't need a color coded list of members or stickies or anything else. The group area gives you an auto list of your members, a picture album for your group, unlimited discussion areas and the leader (general) has full control of that area without having to wait around for an admin to do something in their group. Control of your own gamer group to invite members or remove members and post as you wish. Doesn't sound like a bad thing guys.
Let me know what you goes think about all this stuff.
Thanks.
