February 1, 2010: wallet threat level yellow

The danger level to wallets this week is yellow, but only to very specific people. RPG fans -- well, ones with Playstation 3s -- will be in danger from White Knight Chronicles, a game that's taken a year to make it here from Japan. As you can see from the screenshot above, it looks like Harry Potter has finally armed himself with something more substantial than a sissified wand. Give 'em hell, Harry!

If you're a STALKER fan, which is more difficult in a post-Fallout 3 world than it was in a pre-Fallout 3 world, beware the sequel. STALKER: Call of Pripyat is out this week.

If you're a fan of MMOs or Star Trek, you're probably going to get sucked into Star Trek Online. I'll have more to say about it throughout the week, but suffice to say it's one of those MMO launches that gives MMO launches the reputation they have.

Global Agenda is a subscription-based shooter from Microsoft for the PC. Good luck with that. As if being subscription-based isn't bad enough, it's published by Microsoft, a company known for being singularly hostile to Windows-based gaming. I give Global Agenda a month, tops.
